Our Mission

About Makana Hale Cooperative

Makana Hale Cooperative is a community-driven housing initiative dedicated to providing affordable, sustainable housing for individuals and families in need of stability and support. Our cooperative offers a safe and dignified alternative to houselessness, rooted in values of cooperation, mutual aid, and shared responsibility. Together, we strive to create a thriving, inclusive environment where all members can find not just a place to live—but a place to belong.

Established in 1995, Makana Hale Cooperative holds the distinction of being one of the few remaining affordable housing cooperatives on Oʻahu. While other co-ops have transitioned to different ownership models, Makana Hale continues to operate under the cooperative model, preserving housing affordability and community-driven governance for generations to come.
